SUMMARY:Emergency Call To Stop Republican Attacks on Families & Kids
DESCRIPTION:Families and children\, particularly immigrants and people of color\, are under dire attack under the current Republican tax and budget proposals that House and Senate leaders want to jam through Congress before the end of the year. This bill puts everything at stake – from health care to the DREAM Act – and we must take action now to stop it. \nNot only will the Republican bills force $1.5 trillion in cuts to Medicaid and Medicare over the next 10 years to pay for massive tax breaks to the richest households and multi-national corporations\, the Senate tax bill now includes a repeal of a key Affordable Care Act (ACA) provision that would leave 13 million people uninsured and raise rates by 10% for over 7 million people. \nThe Republicans’ relentless insistence on killing Obamacare has stalled any possibility of bipartisan progress on other critical issues we care about\, including passing a clean DREAM Act that would protect over 800\,000 immigrants from incarceration and deportation. \nBringing back the ACA repeal in the tax bill in order to pay for permanent corporate tax breaks that would lower the corporate tax rate from 35% down to 20% has also shut down bipartisan negotiations to renew CHIP for 9 million low-income kids who are at risk of losing coverage very soon if Congress doesn’t take action to reauthorize funding. \nNot only is this bill the largest transfer of wealth from low income and middle class families to the wealthiest 1% and corporations in generations\, provisions in the bill directly attack our communities and families. DESCRIPTION:In an effort to be present\, witness\, and support families in times of crisis\, such as ICE raids\, detentions\, or feeling unsafe or targeted due to hate crimes/threats\, Fresno leaders and community members have committed to a Rapid Response network to step in and directly help families. \nBecause we know ICE operates very quickly throughout the Valley to deport individuals quietly\, we are ramping up our efforts to reach a broader area and have a bigger impact. We are ready to launch Faith in the Valley Watch\, a new online platform to connect our Rapid Response efforts throughout the Central Valley from Stockton to Bakersfield. \nWhether you have been involved in Rapid Response efforts in the past\, would like to join as we move forward\, or are interested to learn more about detrimental ICE activity in the Central Valley\, we invite you to join us as we launch Faith in the Valley Watch. \nWe are excited to retrain\, reorient\, and re-register all Rapid Responders into the new platform. In addition\, due to the rise of bigotry and aggression by hate groups\, we will be using the Rapid Response network to respond to community members or organizations who are victims of violence and threats.
